Angel's Envy
An Annabel Lee Rework/Sequel AKA What once was thought dead has simply been reimagined.
By now, you’ve all heard tale of the maiden named Annabel Lee. How her life was snuffed out And she was buried by the sounding sea. You were once spared the entire story, But you shall hear its entirety from me. Atop the ancient grave of my beautiful Annabel Lee Lies a rotting, decaying lighthouse No longer guiding ships at sea. After all this time, her cries are still heard, But only by me. The chill that overtook her, that ended the mortal life of Annabel Lee Was not only a sickness of the body, Leaving her skin as cold as the sea. Her eyes grew wild, her teeth grew sharp, That night, Death would claim either she or me. But when the morning sun rose, A heartbeat remained in the chest of Annabel Lee. It grew slower by the instant, but her strength still held, Her highborn kinsmen stole her away from me. Shutting her away from humanity, in her tomb by the sounding sea. These days, all those highborn kinsmen are lost. No one else remains to guard the everlasting Annabel Lee. But my soul remains eternally tied to that prison by the sea. Inside, she rages like a demon desperate to escape, The only thing between she and humanity is me. I have to wonder if I would move on, If I could just touch my darling Annabel Lee. Should I help the building along? Let it fall completely into the sea? What then should become of the world? Would she even remember me?

This is a level-three response to Bradley Ramsey’s power-up prompt. You can enter your own here:

Haunting, tragic, and beautifully restrained. The sea, the tomb, the waiting. This lingers like a curse you don’t want lifted. That final question is brutal.
Be still my Poe loving heart. I love this 💝
