A Walk Through Hell
A "We're Still Here" Poem
I felt the echoes of your anguish From every root of every tree Your broken heart sent shockwaves That no spirit could flee Before you now, I wish to say Thank you, my dear, for freeing me. I hear the betrayal you've suffered I see it poisoning your veins But I also see the love for him That somehow still remains I'm here to help you heal Lest he keep you in your chains. Purge the poison Expel the bile Curse his name From behind your smile You've spent far too long As just a thing for him to defile. Step into the light No matter how it blinds you Allow your eyes to adjust To all that you have gone through Your power lies deep within This, you know, is true. Lean on your sister Her purpose is quite clear She is meant to protect you As you face a new frontier Together you stand against the lies and all the insincere. You've walked through Hell What's one staircase more? All you must do is look within Remember who you were before Together you can turn the tides Of this endless war.

This might be your best poem yet, my friend. Sweet Cthulhu, some of these lines hit me like a ton of bricks. I think this one is my favorite:
"You've walked through Hell
What's one staircase more?"
If this wasn't already connected to a larger work, I'd have to insist that you expand it into a full book or series. It stands on its own, for sure, and the words echo well beyond the page, but damn if I don't want more. 👏👏
This is a really precise meditation on the push and pull of life. Excellent!
